Finally, warmer weather is on the horizon, and we are all itching to fire up our backyard grills, hit the pool, and soak up the sun in our favorite spots! But before summer officially sinks in, we have a few essential home maintenance tips to set you up for success this season.
Inspect Patios, Porches, and Walkways
Cold winter weather can have lasting effects on your outdoor surfaces, especially those made of loose brick, stone, and concrete materials. After the past winter season, inspect your outdoor areas to ensure that erosion hasn’t caused any damage to the pavers.
Monitor Outdoor Lighting
Check on your outdoor light fixtures to ensure they are all in good working order. Replace any faulty bulbs as needed and consider investing in updated lighting, such as motion-sensor security lights or lighting that will brighten your landscaping for summer nights.
Refresh Any Potted Plants
After a luscious and fruitful spring season, check on any potted plants for signs of repotting, overwatering, or sun damage. Give these plants a refresh with a change in location, a larger pot, or some fertilizer.
Invest In Landscaping
After April showers have left your lawns looking fresh and rejuvenated after a harsh winter, invest in high-nitrogen fertilizer to keep your front yards looking green all summer long!
Scrub All Windows
A clean home is a happy home. And before all of the neighbors head to your home for a summer block party, take some time this May to wash away the spring dirt from your windows. Soon, your house will practically sparkle in the summer sun!
Check For Leaks
Even though we’re all craving some sun, don’t forget to show your home’s interior some TLC this month. Check your kitchen, bath, and any water fixtures for damage or leaks. Consider regrouting/recaulking around counters and tiling to ensure you won’t suffer water damage in the summer months.
