Tip Of The Month: How To Remove Your Summer Weeds Before The Season Is Up

Tip of the Month How to Remove Your Summer Weeds Before the Season is up - Greg Douglas - Real Estate Candy - Texas Real Estate

Are your summer weeds getting the best of you? With high temperatures and high humidity levels this season making it prime conditions for weeds to flourish, homeowners may be struggling to keep their summer gardens in check. Luckily, there’s always an answer.

Check out these excellent tips to maintain your gardens and permanently remove weeds!

Get Down And Dirty

One of the most well-known and most effective ways to deal with weeds is to pull them out by hand. This method is perfect for more established plant beds that occasionally require maintenance. The best time to weed by hand is after heavy rainfall, while the soil is damp! Ensure that you dig deep to pull up as many roots as possible.

Natural Removal

It is fairly simple to create a natural weed remover spray that avoids chemical herbicides at home with products you might already have on the shelf, such as white vinegar, salt water, and diluted Borax. Remember to use protective gloves when handling these products!

Block Growth

One of the best ways to prevent weeds is to stop them from sprouting. Mulch is a fantastic addition to your summer gardens that will not only stunt the growth of weeds but also add to your yards’ aesthetic appeal! Additionally, mulch will keep your soil cool and make it easier to pull out any other weeds that have popped up. Another method to block the growth of weeds is to remove access to sunlight and water. Consider laying a heavy black plastic tarp, cardboard, or even newspapers on the weed-heavy area to block out the sunlight.

Mow The Tops

If you don’t have the time to get down and dirty or lay down weed-removing materials at the moment but want to maintain the spread of your weed patches, then you can mow the tops off. Removing the tops of weeds before they bloom and continue to germinate in your yard will drastically slow the spread.
